Position Title: SPC Quality Engineer

Position Summary:
Develops, implements, and coordinates activities to ensure that the SPC programs are implemented, personnel are trained in SPC. Individual works with Manufacturing, R & D, Information Technology, to improve measurement capability of critical characteristics, and to prevent or eliminate defects in products. Individual contributes to the maintenance and improvement of the ISO 9001 management systems for the business unit.

Position Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain a data infrastructure through which product quality is tracked and monitored. Create quality metrics and present reports.
Conduct supplier Quality System evaluations and audits. Work with suppliers to establish and maintain product and process specifications at mfg. facilities.
Increase plant-wide SPC awareness though training and consultation.
Develop and implement quality system to ISO standards. Prepare methods, procedures for inspection and evaluation of products.
Perform capability analysis on mfg. processes.
Work with engineering team to define quality requirements on new product introductions. Drives process control initiatives to reduce variability, including process standardization, process characterization, and development of control plans. Works with the IT department to develop data collection systems and on-line, real time process monitoring and SPC through direct data interface with equipment PLCs and manually entered product data.
Evaluates and improves measurement capability of critical characteristics, including measurement device selection and qualification to ensure products meet customers’ specifications.
Identifies opportunities for product and process improvement projects, including those requiring Lean Manufacturing and/or a Six Sigma approach, in line with business objectives and opportunities. Collects and analyzes data from product improvement trials and experiments and produces reports.
Analyzes and evaluates data, and presents information concerning factors such as customer complaints, production capacity and throughput, manufacturing problems, and design and development of new products for consideration by members of the management team.
Identifies skill and performance gaps in the organization with regard to quality. Works with other members of management to recommend and/or develop and deliver training and other methods to ensure continual improvement of the quality and environmental management systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to read and write in English and deliver effective presentations an training sessions. Skilled at writing technical briefs, procedures and work instructions for a non-technical audience.
TEAM LEADERSHIP AND FACILITATION SKILLS
Must be an experienced project team leader/facilitator with understanding of team/group dynamics, meeting skills, and organizational behavior.
SOFTWARE SKILLS
Intermediate to advanced skills in Adobe Acrobat Professional and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio. Skilled in the use of statistical software (JMP, Minitab, DesignExpert, Northwest Analyst, etc.).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
ASQ Certified Quality Engineer and/or Certified Six Sigma Black Belt
Education and Experience:
· Required: Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration or related discipline
· 5+ years of Quality Engineering experience in statistical process control.
· Must have experience or advanced training on statistical methods, Statistical Process Control, problem analysis and resolution, design of experiments, systematic root cause analysis, and quality systems
· Familiarity with auditing techniques.
· Knowledge of ISO 9001:2000 and other applicable ISO standards.
· Demonstrated ability to train, monitor and coach other team members
· Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) software (ASI desired),
· Microsoft Project or related project management software is preferred
· Experience/training in Gage R&R.
· Must have excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
· Must have ability to build cross-functional team and manage complex multitasked activities.
· Must be proficient in writing technical procedures/instructions.
· Must be proficient in MS Excel, MS word, MS Power Point.
